Get On The Pathway

When you put your faith in Jesus and accept him as Lord and Savior, the Bible says you begin a new life. Living your new life in Christ means that you’ll be taking a different path than the one you were on. You might be asking, “How do I get on the right path?” That’s a great question and we have outlined below some steps for you to take as a follower of Christ. As you take the steps along this pathway, you’ll see four important trail markers along the way. They are, in order, ENGAGED – ESTABLISHED – EQUIPPED – EMPOWERED. As you engage this new life in Christ, it’s important that you become established in the truth of His Word, equipped to minister to others, and empowered through our local church to use your God-given talents and abilities to serve in His Kingdom.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship…  Acts 2:42

As you begin to walk this pathway you’ll notice that the focus is on learning and fellowship. These are two sides of the same coin and clearly specified in the Bible as the way to Christian maturity.

Your NEXT STEPS are outlined below with their corresponding trail markers:

COACHING RELATIONSHIP –  Your second step is to get connected with a mature believer that can help guide you along the pathway as you take your next steps. At NewLife Church we call these people coaches. We like to use the term “coach” because a coach doesn’t try to make you just like them, but rather helps you become the person God intended YOU to be. Your coach is there to help and encourage you, not to make you follow a bunch of rules and regulations. Contact NewLife Church to be connected with a coach.

ONLINE VIDEO TEACHING: UNDERSTANDING SALVATION –  Your third step is to watch this online teaching to learn what salvation is and what it isn’t. This course is available at no charge and will be the main teaching component of the Next Steps pathway. Click here to begin your online teaching. You will be asked for your name and email and to supply a passwhttp://christianequippers.comord. DISCUSSION GROUP: ADULT BIBLE STUDY –  Step four is to begin attending our Adult Bible Study that takes place Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. during the school year. Adult Bible Study is held at both NewLife Choteau and NewLife Fairfield. These discussion-based bible studies are not only meant for learning, but also for fellowship. It’s important that as you walk the pathway of your new life in Christ that you walk with other believers. We need each other and Adult Bible Study is a great place to connect with others and to encourage each other. The first discussion group you should attend as part of our Adult Bible Study is “Discovering Jesus”.

WEEKLY CHURCH ATTENDANCE –  Step five is to attend our weekly church service. Attending church services is not a task to checked off your to-do list, but rather a time to experience the life-changing power of Jesus. During our weekly worship service you can connect with God through worship, be encouraged and empowered through biblical teaching, and position yourself to receive a needed touch from God through prayer. The book of Hebrews warns us not to “forsake meeting together” because God wants us to be in fellowship with Him and with each other.

WATER BAPTISM –  In Matthew 28:19 Jesus commands us to be baptized in water as an evidence of our salvation through Him and as identification with His body of believers. Paul tells us in Romans 6 that our immersion in the baptismal water symbolizes death to our old life and our coming up out of the water symbolizes our new life in Jesus Christ.

COACH TRAINING –  How do you know if you’re a disciple? Fortunately the Bible gives a clear answer. Disciples make other disciples (Matthew 28:19). Just as you have had a coach walk this pathway with you, now it’s time for you to coach someone as they take their next steps. Therefore, step eleven is where you learn to become a coach so that you can disciple others. Coach training is done on a one-to-one basis or sometimes in a small-group setting. Your coach will help you get connected to coach training.

COACHING RELATIONSHIP –  Your twelfth step is to enter into a coaching relationship with a “younger” believer and show them their next steps on the discipleship pathway. Pastor Rock Perkins will be your “Head Coach” as you step into this new role. And so we continue to follow Jesus’ command to make disciples who make disciples.
